October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and nurse practitioners (NPs) across the country are doing their part to raise awareness for millions of women. As treatment and survival rates for breast cancer rise, it has become paramount to make people aware of the potentially live-saving importance of early detection.
This month, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the largest professional membership organization for NPs of all specialties across the country, has teamed up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to launch an awareness campaign for the month of October.
NPs and PAs work tirelessly to help those around them. We can help you join those efforts.
A big part of the campaign is direct advertising in major cities. This includes wall-sized advertisements in three major domestic airports, including Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Reagan International Airport in Washington D.C. and Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport.
The advertisements will focus on showcasing life-saving messages promoting regular checkups and the importance of early detection. The advertisements will reach an estimated 330,000 people each day, many of whom will be women.
An Important Part
Since NPs play a vital role in primary care for patients across the country today, it’s not surprising to see their participation in the campaign. Much like doctors, NPs interact with patients daily and have, in many cases, played a crucial role in both the prevention and early detection of breast cancer in women.
Given their unique training and more holistic approach to treatment, NPs will continue to be an important link in the medical field by encouraging patients to remain vigilant and spreading awareness of a disease that affects millions across the country.
